Construction And Restart Schedule For The Pipeline

  • Sunday March 9
    - 8 pm Concrete subbase will be poured beneath the new pipe section; the concrete will cure for 12 hours
    - 10 pm Welding completed

  • Monday March 10
    - 7 am Begin form work and placement of steel reinforcement for complete concrete encasement of the new pipeline
    - 12 noon Concrete poured for concrete encasement
    - 6 pm 102” force main filling commences; flow begins in pipeline; the process will take about 24 hours in order to release air from the pipeline and get pressures stabilized in the system

  • Tuesday March 11
    - 7 am Begin backfilling of excavation; portions of steel sheeting to remain in place; replaced damaged section of Sayreville 8” sewer line
    - 6 pm 102” force main is back into full service provided that all air is released from the system; bypass is eliminated

  • Wednesday March 12
    - 7 am Backfilling, excavation and removal of sheeting continues

  • Thursday March 13
    - 7 am Backfilling completed; site graded with seeding to be performed during the spring months; contractor demobilizes

  • Presently, the MCUA plans to utilize both the 72” pipeline and the repaired 102” pipeline so that the sewage volume is contained and only treated sewage from the wastewater treatment plant is discharged to the Raritan River/Bay

  • MCUA’s independent consultant took samples at the Sayreville pump station throughout the weekend; the Raritan River sampling was suspended for the weekend but will continue on Monday; all data will be forwarded to DEP

  • Work is continuing on a 24-hour basis
