Electric Power Generating
The Electric Power Generating Facility is a major component of the Landfill Gas-to-Energy project. The MCUA's Electric Power Generating Facility will utilize the greenhouse gases from three inactive regional landfills - ILR, Edison and Middlesex County Landfill - to fire three turbines, producing 16-megawatts of electrical power.

The gas turbine generators, which replicate jet engines, produce ten-megawatts of energy when the facility is operating with full potential. The gas turbine generators release 70% of its energy in the form of heat, which will also be recycled and beneficially utilized to produce steam via the gas turbine generators to make an additional 8-megawatts of electricity. The complex-cycle facility consumes two-megawatts to operate, therefore the net output of the Electric Power Generating Facility is 16-megawatts of energy, enough electricity to power 9000 homes.
