- The average hourly bypass sewage rate varies between
1.6 to 3.0 million gals/hr
- At the break site, the repair of the pipe is completed;
the welding of the pipe is completed; the concrete encasement
of the pipe is progressing well and should be completed
by 6 pm
- 102” force main filling will commence by 6 pm;
the process will take about 24 hours in order to release
air from the pipeline and get pressures stabilized in
the system
- Begin backfilling of excavation; portions of steel
sheeting to remain in place; replace damaged section of
Sayreville 8” sewer line
- On Tuesday, March 11, at approximately 6 pm, the 102”
force main is back into full service; bypass is eliminated
- On Wednesday, March 12, backfilling and excavation
completed; removal of sheeting completed; site graded
with seeding to be performed during the spring months;
contractor demobilizes
- Presently, the MCUA plans to utilize both the 72”

the sewage volume is contained and only treated sewage
from the wastewater treatment plant is discharged to the
Raritan River/Bay
- MCUA’s independent consultant took samples at
the Sayreville pump station and in the Raritan River today;
all data will be forwarded to DEP; sampling will continue
throughout the week
